Federal States in Brazil

Brazil is the largest Country in the South American continent, it is a Federate Country, that is formed by States, each of them with its own autonomy but depending on the Government of the central district based in Brasilia, capital of the Country and main political centre both for the Country but also for the whole South America. The quality of the relationships among the different regions, that is the States, if added to the increase of the communicative structure, are factors that allow the Country to grow in a joint way, without any inequalities among the different States.

We can range from the complex urban mosaic to the fervent energy of cities such as Rio de Janeiro to places like the State of Pernambuco, the State of Bahia, or Maranhao, where the cities are going through processes of exponential growth. The wild rain forest of Amazonia is on the other hand the natural scenery for picturesque and impressive wonders, such as Iguacu waterfalls on the border with Argentina.

Brazil is the fifth Country in the world by extension. Within it we can distinguish, according to the economic planning criteria, five large regions. We can notice that these regions below mentioned do not follow natural , economic or cultural boundaries, but only the political geography of the internal states.

1. NORTH - (Região Norte), that is the Amazon region of the fain forest where is still dominant the native culture.
2. NORTH-EAST - (Região Nordeste), that is the area where is dominant the black culture and the old Iberian folklore, and also the area where the sea takes unique hues and place where the warm climate and the sun catch the collective imagination. But it is also the poorest area in the country also if in great expansion.
3. CENTRE-WEST - (Região Centro-Oeste), that is the region of humid lands, famous because there are located large agricultural farms and recently built cities like for example the newborn capital Brasilia, well-known all over the world for its daring city planning.
4. SOUTH- EAST - (Região Sudeste), that is the industrial economic heart of the country with some-century-old cities.
5. SOUTH - (Região Sul), that is the most developed part of the country with valleys and pampas where the "gaucha" heritage together with the European culture is dominant as happens in the near Uruguay and Argentina.

The continental dimensions of the Country, its geographical variety and its ethnic mosaic imply a remarkable cultural diversification. There are significant differences from regions to regions, so that they could make different countries, although the Portuguese language, spoken everywhere, is an important element of national identity.

As mentioned above, Brazil is formed by Federal States: they are twenty-six, plus a federal district, where the capital, Brasilia, is situated. The Brazilian States have partially historical borders, partially conventional borders, imposed by signed agreements throughout the centuries. The Federal district is not to be considered either a State or a Municipality, as it boasts its own individual identity.

Choosing the State where starting-up a business is really important, so Bright Business Consulting LLP, turns out to be the suitable partner, that through appropriate company investigations and commercial information can provide the necessary support and ideal help.

The first ones to develop, after World War II, were the states that now represent the region defined "NORTH", Roraima, Rondonia, Amapà, Rio Branco and Acrè. When you move eastward, you can meet the states that make the region "NORTH-EAST", Maranhao, Cearà, Piauì, Bahia, Pernambuco, but also Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. In the "SOUTH EAST", on the Atlantic Ocean, there are more four States, Rio de Janeiro, centre of the famous tourist resort, Minas Gerais, San Paolo and Esperito Santo. The "SOUTH" of Brazil is dominated by three States, from North to South there are Paranà and Santa Catarina, bordering with Argentina, and Rio Grande do Sul, beyond which there is Uruguay.

Brazilian States boast a fairly moderate autonomy in the Government as regards legislative matters, public safety and collection of taxes and each of them enjoys "Tax Concessions" ad hoc arranged for their specific requirements and development plan. The skills and knowledge of the processes that distinguish the differences are basic elements to enter this Country. As leader of the Government of each State there is a Governor, directly elected by people vote, as well as the legislative body. Each State is divided in municipalities, each with its Council and Mayor, autonomous and independent on both Federal and National Government.

The judiciary organization is transferred to the individual districts, called law courts. At national scale they are called comarcas. Every court can supervise one or more municipalities. The Federal Constitution decides which taxes can be collected by each unit of the federation and how the capital will be distributed among them.
